[edit] Creating a page

Use the Search funtion to determine if a page exists. If the page doesn't exist you will see a link to the article in red. Click on that link and create the page.

 • Non-existing page: Follow the link to the non-existing page. It will take you straight to an edit page.

We have Character, Novel, and Short Story Templates that you can use, so that you don't have to reinvent the wheel. You can also use the Sandbox to test out any changes that you want to make, if you are new to wikis.

After you complete your changes to the page, you can either preview or save the changes. When ready to save your changes, enter a summary, and press the Save Page button.

[edit] Editing a page

Click either:

 • Existing page: click the Edit link at the top

Please use the Character, Novel, Video Game and Short Story Templates to ensure that the wiki is consistant, and so that you don't have to reinvent the wheel. You can also use the Sandbox to test out any changes that you want to make, if you are new to wikis.

After you complete your changes to the page, you can either preview or save the changes. Select "This is a minor edit" if it is something minor, like fixing a typographical error. When ready to save your changes, enter a summary, and press the Save Page button. Note: Be sure to enter a description of the edit in the Summary field. These show up in the change logs (including Recent Changes), making it easier for all users to see what's changed.

[edit] Linking to a Wiki Page

While editing a wiki page, put double square brackets around the text you wish to become a link. Example:

Lusitania

will create a new link that will function like this:

Lusitania

If you want to display a different phrase than the page name, you can use a pipe (|). The text before the pipe (|) is the page name. The text after the pipe is the label for that particular link. For example:

Ender lived here

will display like this, and link to Lusitania:

Ender lived here

If a linked page does not exist, the link will be colored red.

[edit] Creating a new link to another website

While editing a wiki page, put square brackets around the URL and the description text you wish to become a link. Example:

Official Page of Orson Scott Card

will create a new link that will function like this:

Official Page of Orson Scott Card

An alternative option would just be to write out the URL, creating an instant hyperlink.

http://www.hatrack.com

becomes:

http://www.hatrack.com

[edit] Placing images

To show an external image on the wiki, just type its URL. For instance, typing:

http://www.hatrack.com/osc/books/endersgame/endersgame.jpg

will show the image:

http://www.hatrack.com/osc/books/endersgame/endersgame.jpg

To display an image that's been uploaded to the wiki, type the following:

To make it display as a right-aligned thumbnail (as seen on the Main Page), type this:

Other options include |300px| (replacing 300 with what size you want the thumbnail to be), |left| (to align the image to the left), or |center| (to center the image).

[edit] Interwiki Links

To link to another Wikia, you can use its title followed by a colon and the article name, instead of using the full URL.

For example, the creatures wiki home page is at Creatures:Main Page, which can be typed as

Creatures:Main Page
rather than as http://creatures.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

This style of link works for any wiki in the interwiki map, not just for Wikia. See Help:Interwiki link.

[edit] Redirecting

If you ever need to change a page so that it redirects to another page, edit the page you want to redirect from, and use this command:

#REDIRECT targetpagename

Note - The command must start at the first character of the first line of the page.
